Oldham Mosque Scores Big: Raises £10,000 in Charity Football Tournament
In a heartwarming display of unity and community spirit, Bilal Jamia Masjid in Oldham recently hosted a charity football tournament that not only brought joy to the local residents but also raised an impressive sum of over £10,000. This remarkable event, held on August 20, saw more than 2,000 people from diverse backgrounds come together for a day of sportsmanship and goodwill.
The tournament, organized by Bilal Jamia Masjid, was not just about kicking a ball; it was a testament to the power of collective effort and shared values. Supported by generous contributions from local businesses and the unwavering support of Oldham Council leader Arooj Shah, this event transcended boundaries and brought the community closer.
“I was really happy to be able to support this community initiative,” expressed Arooj Shah, who also serves as a councilor for St Mary’s ward. “They’re raising funds for something important to so many people in Oldham, and it was really easy to fund the pitch hire so they could raise as much money as possible.“
The tournament took place at Greenhill School, where teams battled it out on the pitch, showcasing their sporting prowess. For just £80 per five-a-side team, participants not only had a chance to enjoy competitive football but also partake in a ‘family fun day’ featuring a barbecue and delicious ice cream.
The proceeds from this remarkable event will be channeled towards purchasing new land to expand Bilal Jamia Masjid, a mosque known for its welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. The expansion aims to accommodate more worshippers, fostering an environment of unity and spirituality within the community.
Bilal Jamia Masjid’s commitment to serving society and promoting diversity is evident in its endeavors. The mosque is set to continue its charitable activities with a charity cricket tournament scheduled for August 28 at Glodwick Cricket Club. Azad Hussain, a dedicated volunteer and tournament organizer, encourages everyone to join in the festivities and support the noble cause.
“Come along with your family, friends, and kids, and enjoy yourselves,” Hussain urged. “Every penny counts, to be honest, at the moment.”
Bilal Jamia Mosque stands as a beacon of positivity and unity in Oldham, welcoming individuals from all walks of life to practice their faith in a safe and inclusive environment. This uplifting event showcases the power of togetherness and the immense potential for positive change when a community comes together for a common goal.
