Volunteering Spirit Beyond Words in Indonesia

Despite falling into the feeling that we are living our lives concerning the majority’s norms, a group of brothers and sisters in Indonesia have taken it upon themself to provide equal opportunity to others in need. Today we will be looking at Muslim lands through the lenses of Indonesia. 

At At-Taqwa Grand Mosque in Indonesia, volunteers provide sign language translations for Muslims who are deaf for them to be able to join the recitations in the mosque.  Abdullah, a member of the Tablighi Jamaat, underlined that they had started this blessed initiative with only a handful of sign language translators and have gained great experience over time. 

According to Hariri, one of the translators at the mosque, the deaf members of the congregation are now able to attend training regularly since 2013. He also added that with the regular Friday programs which deaf individuals attend, they are also able to get into contact with the outside world and meet new people.  

A deaf member of the congregation, Azmi, mentioned that alongside his career as a teacher he regularly attends the Quran recitations at the mosque and that he welcomes students with great happiness. We send prayers, to our brothers and sisters in Islam, who strive to find new methods in delivering and spreading the message of the Quran to others.
