Elderly Man Who Encountered the Mosque Becomes a Muslim
During this year’s Eid prayer at the Gold Coast Mosque in Australia, an elderly man who was bothered by the mosque’s noise led to a heartwarming moment.
An elderly man residing in a nearby retirement home, disturbed by the noise of the mosque, had the opportunity to speak with Hussin Goss, who has been the president of the Islamic Society for the past twenty-nine years. He celebrated Eid al-Fitr with the Muslim community and, in their presence, declared his faith in Islam. This unforgettable moment for Muslims allowed people around the world to witness it through the live broadcast on Goss’s Facebook account.
Approximately 10,000 Muslims live in this region, with about 1,200 people praying at the Gold Coast Mosque. Goss, a member of the Islamic Society for twenty-nine years, is known for his efforts to make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate, earning recognition from the Muslim Aid Foundation with an Appreciation Certificate.
It’s truly a remarkable act when someone, who may not be Muslim and may even have had Islamophobic sentiments, embraces Islam. It serves as a reminder for us to be thankful for being born into the faith, to strive more for our beliefs, and to learn from such experiences. We hope to witness such virtuous actions more frequently.
